“I am a little star of my school and society”

Name : Anshika (Child ID: 906539)
Sub Project – DPP

This is a story of a sponsored child Anshika. Anshika is only 12 Years old and she has achieved many titles and prizes for her sports. She belongs to an economically weaker section of the society, but through her love for sports, she has established a name for herself and her family. From her early childhood she has been interested in many sports and games. She has won many prizes as well, but as of now she is famously known as the best Table Tennis Player in her school.

Anshika lives in Delhi with her parents and grandparents. They live in a small rented house. Her father is working as a peon (office attendant)  in a school, where Anshika is studying. Her mother is a housewife. They migrated from Sitapur district, of Uttar Pradesh state in India in pursuit of better lifestyle and educational opportunities for children. They have been living in Delhi since 15 years now. The great thing is that even after belonging to a remote and rural area mindset, they are aware about the importance of education and for the better future of their children, they are working hard and trying to fulfil their wishes. Anshika, was very much interested in sports from her early childhood. Earlier she used to perform and take part in Taekwondo (martial arts). She won gold medals in it in 2015. As times passed, she changed her mind and started taking interest in Table Tennis.

As a result the family has received tremendous criticism for engaging their child in sports activities, especially because sports are not meant for females. Despite all this the parents never discouraged her, rather they have proved to be a strong pillar of support.

Finally, she enrolled in the Table Tennis academy at her school itself and started her training. After which she participated in various competitions first at the school level competition and then in district and state level competitions and finally she got a chance to participate in National level opens and there she won Silver medal.

Since 2016 she has been endlessly taking part in various competitions, especially in Taekwondo, table Table-Tanis and has been winning awards after awards. So far she has won around 30 medals in various championships and sports events. She even got first prize this year in 2023 in Thyagraj Stadium, Delhi.

Anshika says, “This is just the beginning of my achievement and I have a long-way to go.”

The family is thankful to Unbound for the support for her education, through this support they could help their child achieve her dreams by provide additional training in the field of sports.
